About the School District
The Iowa-Grant School District is located in the heart of farm country in southwest Wisconsin, and it is the heart of the communities it serves. It is within easy driving distances to Madison, Wisconsin and Dubuque, Iowa. The district includes two school buildings on one campus serving grades PK-8 and grades 9-12. It is located in Mifflin Township northeast of Livingston, WI. The district is steeped in tradition and small-town, wholesome community values.
In 2023-2024, the elementary and middle schools were designated 5-Star Schools by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The district leads the area in implementing the new state requirements for literacy, and takes pride in a veteran staff. The high school has consistently been awarded Dual Credit participant awards from Southwest Technical College. Students participate and excel in numerous co-curricular opportunities, such as team sports, clubs, musicals, etc. In 2025, the high school Forensics team were awarded 12 gold, 16 silver, and 7 bronze medals, as well as placing in the top 10% for the WISDAA’s Distinction is Speech Award. The district maintains a capital improvement fund of $600,000. The new superintendent should have the ability to work with a veteran business manager and the board of education to manage a balanced budget that local property tax payers will support and can afford.
Company History
About the Community
The district contains slightly less than 200 square miles consisting primarily of agricultural lands and undeveloped woodlands, with ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. The sixteen municipalities, villages, and townships that comprise the Iowa-Grant School District have a history of strong support for their schools which became even more evident when they came together in 1958 to consolidate schools in Cobb, Linden, Livingston, Montfort and Rewy and the surrounding townships. The referendum to build a centrally located high school passed 630-129. The consolidation proved to be successful and in 1990, the elementary schools were also consolidated on the same campus with the construction of the Iowa-Grant Elementary Middle Schools.
The fear of lost identity which often shows in discussions of school consolidation simply did not manifest in the Iowa-Grant School District. Instead, each of the five villages keeps their annual festivals and celebrations, with the school serving as the social hub. Village parks and ball fields are vibrant all summer long and used extensively both by the schools and summer leagues which contribute to a sense of small town living at its best. As the heart of the community, district facilities are available to support numerous youth sports programs. Throughout the year the district serves as the social and entertainment hub as the community supports all extra curricular activities. School athletic and fine arts events draw near capacity crowds.
Also present throughout the Iowa-Grant school community is a high level of volunteerism and community connectedness. Through membership in fraternal organizations, participation as a volunteer firefighter, EMS, etc, a spirit of neighbors helping neighbors is everywhere. Volunteers also support the schools through booster clubs such as the Iowa-Grant Elementary/Middle School Parent Club, the Iowa-Grant Booster Club, and the Iowa-Grant Music Parents Club. An active educational foundation supports each year’s graduating seniors with their post secondary plans with numerous scholarships. The down-to-earth values of the original German and Norwegian farmers and the Welsh and Cornish miners continue to be passed down through the generations.
