This key district-level role provides strategic leadership in curriculum development, instructional practices, and professional development ensuring the delivery of high-quality education aligned with state standards and the WUSD strategic plan.
CERTIFICATION: Wisconsin Department of Instruction Certification # 5010 – Director of Instruction and valid teaching license.
JOB LOCATION: Educational Services Center, 111 Dodge Street, Watertown
CONTRACT: Full-time, 261-day Contract
START DATE: July 1, 2026

Possessing knowledge and experience with Special Education programs:
Familiarity with the CESA 6 Educator Effectiveness model;
A demonstrated vision of learning using a student first, data-driven approach;
Proven leadership, dedication, and commitment in developing a collaborative team effort among staff, including developing appropriate School Learning Objectives;
Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills that promote educational professionalism with students, parents, and community;
Experience in fostering a climate and culture that supports learning and positive behavior;
Ability to organize professional development at the school and district levels;
Facilitation of vertical curriculum alignment;
Background in Professional Learning Community (PLC);
Background in Data Literacy - Using assessment data (STAR Math and Reading Inventories) to evaluate and narrow gaps among student sub-groups;
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This multi-faceted role includes these responsibilities, among others:
Leading the design, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive curriculum aligned with Wisconsin state standards and district goals.
Collaborating with subject-area specialists and educators to develop and refine curriculum maps, instructional resources, and assessments.
Developing and facilitating a professional development program that addresses the evolving needs of educators with an emphasis on coaching and continuous improvement.
Using a student-driven, data informed assessment system to measure student progress and guide instructional decision making.
Staying abreast of emerging educational technologies and lead initiatives to integrate them into the curriculum.
Collaborating with teachers and technology specialists to ensure effective use of educational technology tools.
Cultivate positive relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to support and enhance educational experiences.
Communicating effectively with stakeholders about curriculum initiatives, educational goals, and student achievement.
Staying informed about state and federal education policies, advocating for necessary changes and ensuring compliance.
Collaborating with district leadership to develop, revise, and implement policies related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Managing the budget for curriculum development, instructional materials, and professional development initiatives.
Ensuring efficient and effective use of financial resources while maintaining high standards of educational excellence.

The Watertown School District has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students taught in seven buildings.
THE COMMUNITY: The Watertown community has 24,000 residents and is located on the Rock River approximately halfway between Madison and Milwaukee, at the junction of Highways 16, 19, and 26.
